Safer healthcare.
Better results.
How we’re achieving high-quality and safe care through digital healthcare.
As seen in:
Building a better system
Many experts agree that digital healthcare improves access to care. However, some say it risks patient safety and believe traditional face-to-face care is the only safe way to deliver treatment.
We don’t agree.
At Juniper, we believe that high-quality and safe care can be achieved by empowering healthcare professionals with modern tools and technology to support patients, from anywhere and everywhere.
That's why Juniper offers online consultations with registered clinicians, giving our patients the freedom to speak to their care team at their convenience and from the comfort of their own home.
We prioritise patient safety
Juniper has been endorsed by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) as a provider of multidisciplinary weight-management services to the NHS, and has been certified against the Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC) standard by ORCHA and the ISO-27001 cyber security standards. We’ve been inspected by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and meet their standards for care.
We audit more than 6,000 consults each month worldwide, constantly working to improve the safety and quality of the Juniper programme for our members. We believe this is an enormous benefit of online care.
Our team of registered healthcare professionals are here to support all of our members, whenever they need it. It’s our goal to work alongside the wider healthcare sector to support members with safe and effective care, enhanced by technology.
Addressing what's
in the news
Can you get medical treatment just by completing the quiz and not talking to a Juniper prescriber?
It’s a requirement for all Juniper patients to complete a consultation with an authorised prescriber before accessing medical treatment.
Prior to this consultation, we also require patients to undertake a medical questionnaire, containing questions about their health, lifestyle and wellness goals, which helps their prescriber gain a deep understanding of their medical status before beginning their consultation.
After completing the quiz, patients are connected with a prescriber in a text-based consult. Members are able to ask the prescriber questions at this time – it’s a safe space for members to get the clarity they need to understand if our programme is right for them. If deemed eligible, patients are offered a treatment plan and everything they need will be delivered to their door. Our dedicated team of health coaches and healthcare professionals are always on hand to provide ongoing support to our members.
Medical treatment plans are only ever recommended by a UK-registered pharmacist prescriber. Around 10% of patients who enter a consult aren’t deemed eligible and may be referred to their usual GP.
Do online health platforms compromise on patient care?
One of the benefits of online care is that it allows us to maintain regular contact with our patients through our wider care team of health coaches and healthcare professionals. In contrast, when a patient leaves their local GP surgery, the contact with their doctor stops immediately and they often have to wait weeks or months to get their next appointment.
According to the NHS, the majority of patients increasingly don’t have one preferred GP.[1] With Juniper, our contact with members continues as we provide ongoing support throughout their journey. This includes regular check-ins and follow-up consultations with prescribers, diet and lifestyle coaching, medical support from registered healthcare professionals and more.
Are online healthcare services as thorough as in-person consultations?
The internet is a different way of communicating with prescribers, however, all prescribers at Juniper UK are registered and trained Pharmacist Independent Prescribers who are specialists in weight loss treatment. Many doctors on the Juniper platform are Fellows of the RACGP, which means they have taken additional training and assessment to practice independently.
Our platform has been endorsed to the NHS by NICE, (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) and our clinicians are registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and each hold accredited pharmacist independent prescribing qualifications. As registrants of the GPhC, our clinicians are committed to ongoing quality improvement and continuing professional development activities each year to maintain this registration.
We believe our patients receive a deeper healthcare experience over several months of regular use on our platform than what is possible through short and irregular appointments with a local GP.
Are online health providers just big businesses trying to make profits?
Juniper UK is privately funded by its members and does not access any of the NHS budget, which in England alone is around £178 billion.[2]
We are a supplement to the public healthcare system and employ UK-registered healthcare professionals.

Our member journey
Pre-consultation questionnaire
A patient completes a detailed pre-consultation questionnaire before speaking to one of our registered prescribers, who review the information.
Members are given the recommended option of informing their usual GP of their Juniper treatment, which enhances member safety by all treatments appearing on centralised medical records.
Prescriber consultation
The member is then assigned to a registered prescriber, who begins a text-based consultation with the patient. Members are able to ask the prescriber any questions they would like during this time.
Many members will be considered unsuitable for treatment by the prescriber at this stage, and may be redirected to their local GP with additional information.
If suitable for treatment, the prescriber will recommend a tailored treatment plan, and the member can then decide whether to proceed or not.
Where the member's medical history indicates increased risks of treatment we liaise with their GP or specialist to make sure our treatment is right for them.
Pharmacy dispensing
Juniper UK has its own dedicated specialist pharmacy service. Your prescription will automatically be transmitted to the pharmacy for every order. Here, an additional layer of safety is added, with the pharmacy again assessing the patient's suitability for the treatment, and providing additional information when necessary. Everything needed for the treatment plan is then delivered to the member’s home.
Ongoing medical support
The member then begins the Weight Reset Programme, where they have unlimited follow-up consultations and ongoing support from our medical support team of healthcare professionals and operational support staff.
They can track their progress, access on-demand video education and recipes, and check-in with our healthcare professionals via the Juniper app.
Clinical auditing of patient safety
Juniper teams consistently monitor consultations through extensive clinical audits, side effects through detailed tracking and analysis, and patient outcomes on numerous treatment plans.
