How much weight can I lose with Wegovy?
People on Wegovy can lose up to 15% of their body weight over 12 months.
A study from 2021 followed 1,961 adults living with obesity or overweight with a related medical problem, and were randomly assigned the GLP-1 injections or a placebo.
After 68 weeks, those taking the GLP-1 lost an average of 15.3kg, whereas the placebo group lost an average of 2.6kg.[1]

Wegovy typically works fairly quickly. Many people see a significant decrease in their appetite within just 1-3 days, and most notice weight loss in the first 4 weeks.[2]
FAQs
Wegovy is a prescription medication that is used for weight loss and weight management. It contains an active ingredient called semaglutide.[3]
Semaglutide is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) analogue, meaning that it mimics the naturally-occuring GLP-1 hormone to stabilise blood sugar levels, stimulate satiety and in turn, encourage weight loss.[4]
Semaglutide, the main ingredient present in the Wegovy weight loss injections, is able to mimic this natural hormone, helping to regulate your appetite and slow down your 'gastric mobility'.
This means that the food you eat stays in your stomach for longer, so you don't experience hunger as often as usual and are less likely to consume snacks and larger meals. As a result, you consume fewer calories and, ultimately, reduce your body weight.
You may notice a decrease in appetite within the first couple of days, wand eight loss within the first month. However, everyone responds differently to medication, so the timeline for when you will begin to experience results with Wegovy can differ. It’s best to speak to your healthcare provider who will be able to provide you with more personalised advice.
Your lifestyle plays a big role in your weight loss outcomes, whether you’re taking medication or not. To maximise your Wegovy results, pair it with a reduced-calorie, high-protein diet and regular exercise. Priotitise sleep and take measures to reduce your stress levels. Remember, as well, to trust the process — after all, achieving long-term results takes time and dedication.
If you don’t notice the expected results with Wegovy, don’t lose hope — there are steps you can take to address this. Your clinician can help you evaluate lifestyle factors — for example, by reviewing your diet, portion sizes, and activity levels. In some cases, they may recommend altering your dose, reevaluating your treatment plan, or exploring other medical options.
But weight loss isn't just about diet and exercise. Sleep is another factor to consider — and getting 7-9 hours of quality sleep helps regulate your hunger hormones and metabolism. Mindful eating and meditation have also been shown to reduce cortisol levels — the stress hormone that contributes to weight gain.
